Early 1960s and I came across U.S. made Liquitex gloss Acrylic paints, in Jars. No British makes back then. Since the 1980s I use matte Acrylics - Swiss made Lascaux mostly. Sometimes Golden Matte Acrylics, which many say is the best - well, I still have some half used jars from the 1980s, good as new. But my favourite is French Flashe Vinyl - slightly different with more opaque colours. Years ago I tried Egg Tempera which I really like, and Oils, which I don't - but would never have made a living from using either. There are as many ways to paint a picture as people on the planet - some artists just copy colours they see, others have a limited set, to adapt, maybe 6 colours. I go with instinct, using any colour. Well, that's a bit of an exaggeration really as there are thousands of them, but to give the paintings a more varied look, using about 20 different pigments gives 90 or so colours to choose from. Which follow the Lorry's livery - to complement it, set it off, or even clash with it. I started off with Abstract art. At 17, after a holiday job as a drivers mate, I dropped out, was a colour matcher in a Silk Screen Printers for 6 months, to save up for driving lessons to go Lorry driving
- learning a bit more about mixing colours at the same time.
